digital mammography certification
through the FDAs certification extension program.
Lastly, it is beneficial to get the RIS
and charge analysis teams together to
discuss new procedural codes and charge
codes. It is important to know that there
is no current reimbursement for breast
tomosynthesis. The current suggested
billing practice would be to use the regu-
lar mammography “g” codes for digital
procedures and bill unlisted CPT code
76499 for a 3D procedure. It is impor-
tant to create new RIS codes for tracking
purposes in the RIS system. It will help
with utilization of equipment and future
reimbursement for budgeting purposes.
Be patient, digital reimbursement didn’t
happen over night!
